The six day war Empty The six day war

Post  Nalin Bakshi Wed Dec 09, 2009 1:00 am

In the history of modern air force (post jet engine), there is no air attack as famous or important as the IAF's attack on Egypt at 0745hrs on June 5, 1967; the begining of six day war. Operation Moked (means focus in english) was an offensive attack by the IAF against its adversaries which were planning to attack Israel. On the first day of the war almost all of the IAF fleet went to attack Egyptian air fields. The attack is said to be done two days prior to an Arab invasion into Israel by Egypt, Syria and Jordon.

Even with a force not sufficient to destroy all bases, IAF continuously pounded Egyptian air bases one after the other. Some pilots flying even 5 to 6 missions in a day.

Lets discuss about this war here.

6 day war is an imprtnt war. From AF point of view it taught world the power of AF. The attack was very decisive and its war taught in perhaps every air force.

The 6 day war was indeed very significant. Note that Pakistan tried to repeat the same on India by the pre-emptive air strikes on Indian airfields in 1971.
However unlike Israel which attacked with 188 out of it's 200 operational planes at that time, Pakistan attacked with only 50 planes.
Also the Indians were wise enough to have the top of the line planes deep inside Indian territory.
I doubt if the achievement of Israel in the 6 day war will ever be surpassed.

Only 50 aircraft? Or PAF didn't give real no's after the failed attempt? 50 is a very small number.

Yes 50 is a very small number. Like i said, to win a war one must think big. The Pakis failed to see this.
