Female pilots in the IAF
Times are changing and the women of the country are taking equal strides with men. While IAF does allow female pilots for transport aircrafts, its reluctant to let us in as fighter pilots.
When countries like US, France and even Pakistan can allow female fighter pilots, then why can' IAF? Why not let us compete and let the best person win?

Re: Female pilots in the IAF
Crores of Rupees are spent on a Pilot for his 3years training and a Pilot once commissioned is expected to serve atleast 14 years, before that he is not allowed to quit. A Female Pilot will need more than 10mnths break when she is pregnant which the IAF can't afford. Plus there arises another problem, womens could face even more horrible consequences if they are shoot down and captured behind enemy line. Thats way no country in this world sends females of any combat ranks into action not even the US. I am for male-female equality but this not just the right place. There is no use of spending mammoth amt of money if Females can serve in active role.
With all due respect.

Re: Female pilots in the IAF
Maybe in India female pilots are not encouraged to enter active combat because the top brass is afraid that they will suffer exceptional torture if captured. Americans do not think so i guess. I saw captured female POW's by the Iraqi army in gulf war 2

Well men can also get sick, can't they? And if this is so damn important then why does US and France have women fighter pilots?

It's just a matter of time before India gets female combat pilots. I see it coming within the next 10 years.

@Vishal
You can derive the answer from the fact that Americans and other countries allow female pilots.

Re: Female pilots in the IAF
i dont really suppose women to be eligible for being FIGHTER PILOTS........
their nervous co-ordination doesn't allow them to be so!!
question is not that US have female fighter pilots or not...the question is...WHAT'S THEIR PROGRESS???

Sabiha Gökçen world's first female air force combat pilot
Sabiha Gökçen (March 22, 1913, Bursa—March 22, 2001, Ankara) was the first female combat pilot in the world[citation needed] and the first Turkish aviatrix, aged 23.[1][2] She was one of the eight adopted children of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
She flew 22 different types of aircraft for more than 8000 hours, 32 hours of which were active combat and bombardment missions.

Re: Female pilots in the IAF
Sabiha Gocken Turkish Female fighter Pilot had 8,000 flying hours including 32 combat missions so there should be no doubt about women capabilities.
I bet flying hours of Indian air chief are less than 8,000.

Re: Female pilots in the IAF
During World War II, Lydia Litvyak scored 12 victories and Katya Budanova achieved 11.
The question is not can they do, it is should they do it.
Even in US the so called women Fighter Pilot only train the cadet pilots (Thats what i know). Yes men can get sick but not every guy will be sick for 10 months.
@Perigine
Your country doesn't even have 800 aircrafts. Its not necessary that the best fighter pilots becomes the ACM, they best tactician becomes the ACM. On an average a single fighter pilot of IAF gets around 180-200hrs of flying in a year.

I don't think that is correct. I think on an average a fighter pilot gets far more than that. But I am just guessing here.

I actually calculated the Flt hours of Wing Commander S Sajan (Patil's pilot) by dividing the total flt hours by the years served. It came to 188hrs per year. So i estimated 180-200 which is very good considering that almost all training missions last less than a hour.

Re: Female pilots in the IAF
My calculation are based on the fact that I see Su flying almost everyday. And no flight is less than an hour. And there are bound to be flights more than 1 hour once a month. And there are pilots with 5000 hrs flying and still young. Well, I think we should get some authentic info on that.
Re: Female pilots in the IAF
WE can have female pilots but LIke iron lady said - what will happen when you eject over enemy teritory. are you ready for that?

Shouldn't people be against war anyways? And isn't war fought because its a last resort?
Re: Female pilots in the IAF
Well I don't know that Nalin, but my simple math gave me that answer.
More over our western neighbor has no respect for the Geneva convention, even as we speak I don't know how many Indian soldiers, spies and regular citizens are suffering in prisons. Tales of Kargil war and other conflicts better not be discussed.
